44BEATZCAST 25:07

44BEATZCAST 25:07 celebrates Northern Soul with 74 minutes of weaving upbeat soul anthems and rare Motown imports. Expect classics from The Temptations, The Isley Brothers, Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell and Mary Wells alongside storied names like The Supremes, Dusty Springfield and Smokey Robinson & The Miracles. Rare gems by Frank Wilson, Commodore 69 and The Kelly Brothers add underground flavour.

This Northern Soul set opens with The Temptations & James Jamerson’s “You're My Everything”, then glides into The Kelly Brothers’ “Crystal Blue Persuasion” and Mary Wells’ “Drop In the Bucket”. Kiki Dee’s “The Day Will Come Between Sunday and Monday” leads into The Isley Brothers’ “It's Your Thing” and Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell’s “California Soul”. The Flirtations’ “Nothing But a Heartache”, The Marvelettes’ “I'll Keep Holding On”, The Supremes’ “Love Is Like an Itching In My Heart” and Dusty Springfield’s “Live It Up” round off this first chapter.

Yvonne Baker’s “You Didn't Say a Word” primes the dance-floor, followed by Martha Reeves & The Vandellas’ urgent “Nowhere To Run”. Frank Wilson’s rare “Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)” flows into The Frank Popp Ensemble’s “You've Been Gone Too Long”, while The Supremes return with upbeat “Life Beats”. Marlena Shaw’s gospel-tinged “Let's Wade In the Water” and The Casualeers’ dynamite “Dance, Dance, Dance” give way to Chubby Checker’s “At the Discotheque”. Joy Lovejoy’s cosmic “In Orbit” and 3 1/2’s tender “Angel Baby” complete the mid-set surge.

Smokey Robinson & The Miracles spark the final stretch with “Whole Lot Of Shakin' In My Heart (Since I Met You)”, followed by John Paul’s “I Wanna Know”. The Meters funk up “Hand Clapping Song” before San Remo Golden Strings’ “Festival Time” and Wynder K. Frog’s “Green Door”. Earl Van Dyke & The Motown Brass power “6 By 6” into Gloria Jones’ “Tainted Love”. Ray Charles revives gospel-soul in “I Don't Need No Doctor”, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas guide with “Show Me the Way”, and Sammy Davis Jnr closes with “You Can Count On Me”.
